CROZET, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Field School of Charlottesville, a private all-boys middle school, today announced a $1.5 million matching grant from a donor in support of the school's new Charlottesville campus on Barracks Road.
The new 25-acre campus will have playing fields, hiking and biking trails, and a pond for teaching and recreation. The school says this will help them continue and grow their tradition of using outdoor spaces for learning and growth.
“It's not only the desire to have our own campus as we rent this facility from the county, but to be able to build a campus that's designed for the needs of middle school boys, both in indoor and outdoor spaces, experiential learning spaces, traditional classroom spaces in a beautiful location," said Head of School Bo Perriello.
Perriello also says the move to Charlottesville will allow them to reach an even bigger audience and impact even more local students.
Perriello says the goal behind the new campus is to give students the resources to prepare them and set them up for success, not only for high school but for life.
“All of the research shows that boys are falling behind right now. Academically, we feel like we are creating an environment where we could give them the skills and the resources they need to catch back up. These are the years that will impact them for years to come,” says Perriello.
The new campus is expected to break ground in the summer of 2025.
