WELCOME!

We are thrilled you are interested in Field School for your 5th-8th grade son. At Field School, we know that middle school can be an exciting and engaging time in a boy’s life.  Boys thrive when they are challenged, heard, and have agency in their education. We specialize in boys of this age and work to develop them academically, physically, socially and emotionally so they’re prepared to soar in life.

Private Bus Transportation

We know families come to Field School from across the greater Charlottesville area, and getting to campus in Crozet shouldn’t be a barrier to the right fit for your son. That’s why Field School offers private bus transportation with convenient morning pickup options in both the Fry’s Spring and Barracks Road areas. Nearly half of our students take advantage of this service, giving families flexibility while students enjoy extra time to connect with friends before and after the school day. It’s one more way we make a Field School education accessible, practical, and community-focused.

Affording a Field School Education

Field School is a non-profit organization that relies on a combination of tuition dollars and annual donations to meet its annual budget.

We recognize that a Field School education is an investment in your son’s future and an independent school education is a choice.

Field School awards financial aid based solely on demonstrated need. There is no one award; each family’s application will be considered and evaluated based on their unique financial situation. While the primary responsibility for financing a student’s education rests with the family, Field School is proud to have met 100% of the demonstrated need for our families since our school’s beginning, and we are interested in working with your family, as well.

Comprehensive tuition for 2026-2027 is $26,520.

Unlike the tuition policies that generally prevail in education, this is an all-inclusive tuition (including all fees, such as lunch, athletics fees, school books, regular field trip costs, team uniforms, and Field School sports gear). Parents are expected to provide school supplies (pens, pencils, notebooks, paper), dress code clothes, musical instruments and most personal sports equipment. The school offers a shuttle bus originating in Charlottesville and going to and from Crozet. The cost for the year is $1,700 per student.

  • Field School uses FACTS, an independent, third-party organization, to collect the financial data used to determine financial aid awards. The analysis provided by FACTS, along with any additional information provided by the family, will be used to calculate a financial aid award.

  • All financial aid awards are reviewed and revised on an annual basis.

  • October: Financial Aid application becomes available through FACTS

  • February 1: Financial Aid application priority deadline for prospective families*

*Admission decisions are made independent from financial aid decisions. This process takes place at the same time as, but is separate from, the application for admissions. Financial aid applications that are submitted and completed by January 16th will be reviewed in time for award notifications to accompany admission decisions. The February 1st deadline ensures that students accepted in the first round of admissions decisions may also receive financial aid grant information.

The Field School experience will break your son out of his shell, teach him to advocate for himself, and communicate with teachers and peers. He will feel so good about his education that he is excited to go to school every day.
