National Media Highlighting Gender Gap in Education
Recently, TODAY and NPR covered news of a growing nationwide gender gap in education, showing boys are falling behind.
The TODAY segment highlighted the following statistics:
Boys are at least half a grade level behind their female peers in reading in almost every U.S. state
Nearly 1 million fewer young men than women are going to college
There are twice as many girls than boys at the top 10% of their class
Last week, NPR concluded a 5-part series on the On Point podcast called “Falling Behind: The Miseducation of America’s Boys.” Episodes ranged from the opportunity gap to the decline in male teachers to the impact on our current mental health crisis.
We're proud to share that the practices recently implemented by the school featured in the TODAY segment are what we've been doing since Field School's inception! The Field School of Charlottesville's curriculum is designed specifically around the needs of adolescent boys, including 90+ minutes of physical activity per day; hands-on learning; character, social and emotional development; and, a structured environment that fosters independence and accountability. The school boasts a 10:1 student-to-teacher ratio, with well over half of faculty being males.
Did you know that Field School is one of only three all-boys middle schools in the country? We understand boys and how they learn best. We want your son to be excited to go to school and for him to feel seen and heard.
